A standard installation of NBN equipment is currently free of charge.
A standard installation includes connecting fibre optic cable from your street to the NBN utility box on an outside wall of your home or business and to an NBN connection box inside.
What does NBN installation involve?
If the outside of your property hasn’t been connected to the nbn™ network yet, the free standard installation* will include connecting a fibre optic cable from your street to the nbn™ utility box installed on the outside of your home or business (also known as a premises connection device).
Do I need a NBN connection box?
An nbn Utility Box will be installed to the outside of your premises and a Connection Box will be installed inside – drilling may be required. Your Telstra modem will need to connect to the nbn Connection Box, and your telephone will be plugged into your modem.
How long does it take to get NBN connected?
From the time you call, it can take up to six weeks for your nbn™ installation to occur. This timeframe is the same despite your choice of provider. Currently, nbn™ installation is free of charge.
Where do they install NBN box?
The nbn™ Connection box should ideally be installed:

A technician might be required to attend to your premises to complete the installation and make sure you are connected to the NBN network. For NBN Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless, you will need to get permission from the property owner to install NBN equipment in your premises.
Where is the NBN connection box installed?
An NBN Co standard installation allows for 40 metres of cabling from the Utility Box on the outside of your home to where the NBN Connection Box is installed within your home. the NBN Connection box should not be located within an out building, garage, wet area or hard to reach location.
Is the NBN connection box a modem?
Your router will take the internet connection from your NBN™ Connection Box and broadcast it around your home as a WiFi signal. However, modem routers will usually also try to act as a “modem” by default.
Do you need a phone port for NBN?
If you have HFC nbn service, you plug your home phone directly into the green port on your Telstra modem. If you don’t need a copper phone line, you can switch your phone to the nbn network. If you do switch to the nbn network, you’ll need a connection box inside your home.
